Historic Wooden Building
Nissho Besso is housed in a two-story wooden building from the Edo era, originally a wealthy merchant's home. The property retains traditional Japanese design with tatami flooring, futon bedding, and low tables in all rooms. Rooms vary in size (8, 10, or 12.5 tatami mats) and include a private bathroom, toilet, fridge, safe, and flat-screen TV. Some rooms feature a seating area or garden views.
Public Baths & Hot Springs
The basement houses public baths with equal capacity for men and women, designed for post-sightseeing relaxation. Guests can alternate between Kohmeiseki hot spring tubs and Shigara-yaki pottery baths. Since 2021, microbubble generators ('Mira Bath' and 'Mirable Shower Head') enhance the bathing experience.
Central Kyoto Location
The hotel is a 6-minute walk from Karasuma Oike Station and 500 meters from Honnoji Temple. Nearby landmarks include Nishiki Market (0.5 km), Kyoto Imperial Palace (1.5 km), and the Kyoto International Manga Museum (0.5 km). Shinkyogoku shopping district is within walking distance.
Traditional Meals & Services
Most room plans include breakfast and dinner (Japanese cuisine). The hotel offers massage services, free WiFi, and eco-friendly initiatives like pet bottle cap recycling and traditional furoshiki (wrapping cloth) workshops. Staff provide service in Kyoto dialect, and the property employs foreign and disabled workers.
Family & Accessibility
Family rooms accommodate up to four with futons and private bathrooms. Children under 6 stay free. The hotel is 39 km from Osaka Itami Airport. Public transport links provide access to Kyoto's main attractions, including Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine (4.5 km) and Heian Shrine (2.5 km).
“This ryokan stands out for its commitment to preserving Japanese heritage; the Edo-period wooden structure creates an authentic atmosphere. The location places guests within easy reach of Nishiki Market and key transport links, blending cultural immersion with urban convenience. I found the combination of historical charm and modern amenities particularly compelling.”
